We propose to transform the productive system of the old factory: from the paper production that exploited trees and natural resources to a new space where trees and an environmentally sustainable production will become the core of the whole factory. This new space will be, at the same time, a museum of recycling and a laboratory for a more eco-friendly life.

We propose to empty the existing building keeping just the structural elements as essential memory of old spaces. The interior will become a sort of forest where nature can be in close dialogue with the anthropized spaces, where trees and pillars can live together creating a strange and interesting vertical composition. Here it will be placed a recreation ground with games made of recycled components, an attractive location where children and adults can amuse themselves but also become aware of the importance of recycling.

A scientific observatory will be hosted in the area covered by the old cement roof. This will be a place of learning, made up of different classrooms realized with light structures and a large auditorium. We don’t intend to build in the old factory space, and this is the reason why the volume that hosts the other functions will be set in the only area left free for the competition. This new building will be composed of a series of blocks placed on top of each other and connected with an ascendant promenade that leads to a wide terrace and an outdoor auditorium on the rooftop. This building will be covered with a sort of double skin, a wooden covering reminiscent of the bark of a tree.
